The Equinox
Hello My Friends,
Happy Equinox for all of my Friends and anyone who is in tune with the cycles of our lives. The angle of the sun is very low and the gloaming is apon us at 7:30 or so. The overnight temperatures are in the 40s and 50s, however the days are warm and there is no humidity to speak of. The garden is still producing very well. There are lots of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and Brussels sprouts to be harvested. There are large quantities of herbs. Lemon thyme, mint, basil and oregano plants are growing wildly in our space. The garden is aromatic. Summer is over by the date, but early Autumn can be absolutely glorious.

The Real Deal Walk in the Woods
Hello my Friends,
Last month I posted about our summer vacation and our time in and around Franconia Notch and at the beach in Seabrook, NH. It was about that time that the movie, "A Walk in the Woods" was coming out. My website has the same name, but I was unaware of the book. I had to read the book to see what that was all about. No offense to humorist, Bill Bryson, I am sure he is a nice man. I think he is is from New Hampshire or at least lives up around the Dartmouth area. But, here is the real story.
I would like to introduce you to a real AT through hiker. His name is Donovan. That was all I got from him. My girl had a nice conversation with him and his gang of friends. His trail name was Jesus. When we met him in the Pemigewasset River he looked a lot like a white Jesus. He was as skinny as a rail and had a full black beard from not shaving for nearly five months. He and the group he was hiking with were nearly into Maine, and from what I understood, about 300 miles to the summit of Mt. Katahdin.
I suggest that you read his missives from the trail. He writes so beautifully. Here is the link if you are so inclined. I hope you like it.

Vacation
Hello my Friends,
Thank you for visiting. Thank you to those of you who are new to the website or checking it out again. I appreciate it.
Chris and I have been on vacation the last two weeks and we have some thoughts and photos we would like to share with you. We spent some time up in northern New Hampshire exploring some of the wonderful scenic vistas, trails, waterfalls and lakes. Then to the ocean (Seabrook, NH), to get into the salty brine of the sea, from where we all came. Of course, we travel with Rika and Sam whenever we go away from the hustle and bustle of Massachusetts.
I have to tell you about the lack of light pollution in areas that are isolated and much less populated. Whenever we get out into the woods, the spectacular beauty of the night sky reveals itself to us. We are always stunned and amazed by the sheer volume of stars that we are able to see. At home we are only able to see planets and the very brightest stars. I wish I had some pictures to show you, but again, I have not taken any great photos of the night sky yet, or at least ones I would show on the website.
Here is another thing that just pops right out to us: the incredible smells of fresh air, crystal clear, clean water, wildflowers and pine. It amazes me to no end how wonderful to be free of car and truck exhaust, as well as noise and light pollution. It is so quiet, that the only sounds we hear are the sounds of wind rustling in the breeze and the Pemigewassett River rushing to meet the Winnipesaukee River to become the Merrimack, and then on to the sea. Which is where we go next.
Not two miles from the mouth of the Merrimack, the waves in Seabrook are huge. Sam and Rika run into the waves and quickly retreat. It is as if they respect the power of the ocean like I do. I do think that they are very smart. Unlike the children down toward Salisbury, they never get knocked over by the tide. Lots of surfers are in the water waiting as the incoming high tide rolls in. I body surf alone, moving out beyond the breaks so I can float for a while. Then I body surf the big ones until I can't breath any more. The dogs make friends with dogs and humans and are now the kings of the beach. I feel like a different person than the one that went on vacation two weeks ago.
Enjoy the Photos.
Bye for now,
Peace to All, Bob

June in the Garden
Hello My Friends,
My birthday, the Solstice and June are almost gone by, just like the pansies. The vegetables and flowers are coming along nicely after the unusually cold Spring. I thought I would give you a look at what is happening here in beautiful downtown Methuen, MA. I hope you like the photos.
I will be at the Blue Ocean Music Hall on Sunday August 2, 2015 to see Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Come on down, I am looking forward to seeing them and you at the show. There is some music for your pleasure if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. Keep in touch.

Summer, Summer, Summer !
Hello My Friends,
Thank you for visiting "A Walk in the Woods" with my lady, my dogs and a camera of course. You never know what you might see out there. As you can see by the title, I am very pleased to be moving on into the warm summer months. That was one hell of a winter. Here are just some of the things that I have been photographing lately. I hope you like them. Take care.

Happy Spring
Hello Everyone,
Thank you for visiting. We are half way through May and I have not posted anything this month. Sorry about that. We have been very busy lately. The house is on the market and we have been getting ready for the open house this weekend. I hate to say it, but I will be moving again soon. I know and you know that I have moved around quite a bit over the last 40 years. I have covered a lot of ground. It has been quite a journey. I am hopeful that this will be my last abode until the big sleep. We hope to be somewhere in southern New Hampshire very soon. So, enough about that. It is time for the photos. I hope you like them.
