Hello My Friends,
Thank you all for visiting "A Walk in the Woods". After the longest, coldest, darkest and snowiest winter in recorded history (here in Methuen), I do believe that it is starting to feel a little bit like spring. We just had our first 60 degree day since last November. The 108 inches of snow that we received over the last five months has finally melted. However, we still have snow in the yard and there is a lot of snow in the woods behind the house. The rivers are high and moving at a dangerous rate of speed. The robins have finally returned. That is always a good sign. Small shoots, skunk cabbage, red buds on the trees are forming and bits of green are starting to pop up in the marsh. The herbs in the garden out back are poking through the leaves. We have survived another New England winter.
I have started my plants for the garden. I hope you have started yours, too. Although, it is not too late if you have a sun room or a good south facing window. I planted tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, watermelon, cucumbers and zucchini. Also, I have lots of flowers planted, from last years seeds: impatiens, sunflowers, daisies, marigolds, and even some Stella D'oro daylilies. So, I am looking forward to a great summer and a wonderful garden to enjoy.

Happy New Year 2015 !
Hello My Friends,
Happy New Year to You and Yours. I hope this post finds you all healthy and happy. We went out early to walk the dogs and I can tell you, the weather outside was frightful, definitely not delightful. The temperature was 15 degrees and the wind felt like being hit in the face with thousands of tiny freezing needles. We went to the soccer fields at the Tenny School and the dogs spooked a few geese. Check out the video below.
The one good thing about the cold weather is that the two ponds on the other side of the hill are perfect for skating, and the moon is near full tonight. Pond skating is a great way to start the new year.
Now for a public service announcement: I just signed up to donate blood to the Red Cross tomorrow morning. I think it is another good way to start the New Year, by helping others. That always makes me feel better. I am pretty sure my donation will help some one who needs it. I have been making double red cell donations for 15 years now. Think of making a donation if you can. You can make a difference.

Wet and Wild
Hello My Friends,
Thank you for visiting my photography website. I hope you are all well. Much has changed in the past week. It has been a wild and wooly past few days. The tremendous down pours have melted all of the snow from Thanksgiving. Sunshine has given way to a bleak and brown landscape with little color in it. I will have to find out where the cardinals are hiding out. I have not seen many lately. Today we now have a great deal of flooding in the Merrimack Valley. Monday I was just about ready to test the ice for skating. Today I couldn't cross the street with the dogs. The pond on the other side of the hill has run over the banks.There is an old saying in New England: " If you don't like the weather, wait a minute." That has surely been the case this week. I will be out in the next few days taking more photos, so please check back soon. I look forward to hearing your comments. Bye for now.

Happy Thanksgiving Every One!

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I hope this post finds you well. I wish you a joyful and contented Thanksgiving surrounded by all of your friends and family. Yesterday's snow has given us here in New England a wonderful winter wonderland appearance. It was so nice this morning with the temperatures quite pleasant and the sun helping to melt the snow and ice. Of course, I took lots of photos. Here are some that I hope you enjoy. Thank you for visiting my photography website. Whether you are here for the first time or visit often, it is a pleasure to have you to "A Walk in the Wood". Here I post what I think are some of my best and most recent photos. Well, the leaves are nearly gone now and the weather is changing quickly. However, with the two dogs we get around quite well in the fall and winter. You just have to dress appropriately, and try not to walk back into the wind. Happy November, Happy Thanksgiving
Hello My Friends,
It looks as though things are going to get much colder over the next few days. However, today is a glorious fall day and tomorrow is supposed to be better. I hope you can get out in the woods before it gets too bad. The weather report I saw today said the polar vortex is back. I don't even know what that means. I do know cold and windy air is on the way to New England, like it always does in November. Back in the day they called it the Alberta Clipper. (Which always reminds me of the times I spent in Swan Hills, Alberta with Dan La Montagne). I posted a few pictures for your enjoyment. I like to let everybody see what it is like in Methuen, Massachusetts- my adopted home town. I hope you like them. Come back soon, I am always updating photos.

It is Starting to Feel Like Fall
Hello My Friends,
I cannot believe how fast the last three and a half months have gone by. Some of the days were awfully long, but this morning I woke up and all of a sudden it was fall. I hope this post finds you all well. We have another fresh start to learn and to do all kinds of interesting things. I get excited by the opportunities that I have coming up over the next four months at Salem State (and in the future). Aside from my studies, I am especially looking forward to getting back on the radio at 91.7 WMWM and finding great old and new music for you to hear.
We just got back from a wonderful trip up to Lincoln, NH. My family (Chris, Sam and Rika) and I hiked along the trails on the Kancamangus Highway and in Franconia Notch. We had a beautiful condo (rented from a friend) right on the Pemigewasset River near Loon Mountain. The photo above is along the Cascade Trail in Franconia Notch on the way up to the Kinsman’s Falls. It is one of the many beautiful pictures that we have from our vacation. The only noises we could hear from our condo was the rustling of the leaves in the trees and the river rushing through the valley. There were more stars in the sky than I can ever remember seeing. The night sky was quite spectacular. It was the most relaxing and restful vacation I have had in years. My batteries are fully charged and ready to go.
